Carla – Zenthai Shiatsu

Carla is passionate about healing through mindfulness, caring touch and taking guidance from the systems of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Yoga. She discovered Zenthai Shiatsu at a festival workshop and was immediately captivated by the presence of the teacher, Gwyn Williams, and the teachings he had to offer not only for massage but for a wholesome life. Carla signed up immediately to do the therapist course and received her certificate at the end of 2016. As a qualified yoga and meditation teacher, Carla is fascinated by the human condition, and focuses her sessions on the mind-body connection and activating the body’s full healing potential.

Zenthai Shiatsu is a modality that incorporates techniques from Osteopathy, Thai Massage and Shiatsu and is governed by the wisdom of Chinese medicine.

The massage takes place on a comfortable mat on the floor and is done fully clothed as skin access is not required. You can expect to experience acupuncture without needles, through pressure on specific points and palming along the meridian lines to clear any stagnant chi and bring nourishment. The physical techniques release muscular tension and energetic blockages as well as promote joint mobilization and fascia unwinding. Expect also to come into a state of deep relaxation and connection to self, where true healing begins.
Each client is treated as an individual and a unique sequence is designed for them based on a consultation. A session will include simple tools and lifestyle tips that can bring balance to our modern and somewhat stressful lives.

Kylie Box – Traditional Chinese Acupuncturist

Kylie Box (BA, BSc (Honours) Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture), LicAc, ATMS member

  • Traditional Chinese Acupuncture
  • Cupping therapy
  • Moxibustion
  • Chinese dietotherapy

Having grown up in Melbourne, Kylie moved to London in 1999. Kylie had always suffered occasional headaches and migraines, for which GPs enthusiastically prescribed strong painkillers. When a friend in London suggested she try acupuncture, she did so enthusiastically and was amazed with the results- not only did the acupuncture sort the headaches and migraines but also balanced her whole system holistically. Kylie knew she now needed to heal others with this incredible discipline which had provided such benefits for her. She embarked on a Bachelor of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and upon completing her degree with honours in 2006, established her own practice, providing traditional Chinese acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping therapy and Chinese dietotherapy at her clinics in London’s City and at a prestigious private members’ health spa in Chelsea. Additionally, Kylie volunteered at a London community acupuncture clinic specifically for HIV patients. In her clinics, Kylie also managed and mentored student volunteers in their final year of their Chinese Medicine degree, and wrote research articles for a number of Natural Health and Acupuncture publications.

When Kylie left the UK, she travelled and volunteered in India for a year, mainly volunteering at the office of the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, northern India, before relocating to Melbourne. Seeking warmer climes and a desire to be fully immersed in nature, Kylie and her partner moved to a farm in the Nambucca Valley in April 2018. She has been volunteering at the Community Acupuncture and Shiatsu clinic in Bellingen since May 2018, and we are now most fortunate to have Kylie providing traditional Chinese acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping therapy and Chinese dietotherapy at Alchemy.

Friendly, calm and caring, with a gentle and thorough approach, Kylie has a particular interest in treating stress and stress-related conditions, and all aspects of women’s health, having recently completed a course on Better IVF Outcomes with Chinese Medicine. She is extremely passionate about her work and is excited about providing such an essential and important healing service to people in this beautiful area which she is happy to now call home.

Matt will work at Alchemy on Fridays, commencing this Friday, 7 July. Matt worked at Alchemy from 2009 to 2013. He is an Acupuncturist, Remedial Massage therapist, Zen Shiatsu practitioner, Yoga and Qigong teacher, and First Aid instructor.

While Matt is most famous in Bellingen for his Remedial Massage and Zen Shiatsu, he is also a qualified Acupuncturist. Matt has also completed post-graduate studies with Dr Tan, focusing on relieving pain fast, increasing your range of motion, and creating balance in your body and mind. This treatment provides very effective relief for bad backs, as well as numerous other chronic and acute conditions.

Matt focuses on going beyond your symptoms to help you restore your natural health.

He designs your Massage and Zen Shiatsu treatments specific to your needs, ranging from a gentle energetic touch, to deep gravitational pressure, leaving you feeling nurtured, relaxed and rejuvenated.

His treatments include:

ACUPUNCTURE for specific pain & health problems

ZEN SHIATSU MASSAGE for peaceful body & mind

COMBINED TREATMENT for the best results

ORIENTAL REFLEXOLOGY for relaxation

CUPPING for removing blockages

MASSAGE for relaxed muscles

He also offers advice on stretches and corrective exercises for various ailments.

Matt’s journey into becoming a practitioner is interesting. When Matt began studying a Diploma of Remedial Massage in 1991, like many massage therapists, he soon developed sore hands, wrists, arms & neck from performing so many massages.

Searching for a different way to move his body, Matt discovered Zen Shiatsu and Okido Yoga – which encompasses Indian Yoga, Japanese Zen, Chinese Taoism, Martial Arts and Western Health practices. Hooked, he began a series of deep wilderness experiences with his Okido Yoga teacher (1991-93). They would trek through the Australian Bush for 7-10 days at a time, whilst studying the art of Zen Shiatsu,  Massage, Yoga, Qigong, Martial Arts and Nutrition, carrying only a yoga mat and a backpack full of macrobiotic food.

These deep experiences led him to search for the connection between mind and body. He explored life working in various jobs, including as a journalist, a tree planter, working in a bookshop, studying at university, becoming a teacher, a Shotokan Karate instructor and a father of twins.

Whilst running a video shop in Bellingen for a number of years, he noticed the connection between each individual and the movies they watched. Recognising the intimate relationship between people’s life story and their health, Matt returned to working as a Zen Shiatsu and Massage therapist (2007), studied Acupuncture (2011), and completed further studies in Yoga, Shiatsu, Massage, Meditation and Qigong.

You will now find Matt passionately treating many patients each week, as well as teaching Zen Shiatsu, Massage, Yoga, Qigong and First Aid courses in Bellingen and throughout Australia.

If you need a Health Fund rebate, Matt offers them for most of the health funds.

She has a gentle, holistic approach and her treatments incorporate firm deep muscle release, massage and mobilization. Sarah uses spinal manipulation only where necessary and prefers to educate the muscles to regain their correct function to hold bones and joints in their place.

Sarah has had many years experience working with stress-related disorders and chronic conditions, where loss of movement, stiffness and pain have become everyday symptoms. She incorporates the use of Scenar therapy where indicated.

Neck problems, spine, shoulders, knees, hands and feet are the areas that are covered most frequently in her practice.

Tricia Abell – Kinesiologist

Tricia-Abell

Kinesiologist: Neural Organisation Technique (NOT), Touch for Health, Emotional Balancing, Works with Learning and Behavioural Difficulties.

Tricia is a Level 5 member of the Australian Kinesiology Association and is currently covered by 9 private health funds.

Tricia studied Pharmacy in Melbourne before travelling around the world. From her background in pharmacy, Tricia has an understanding of any medicine you may currently be taking.

In the mid-eighties, Tricia encountered Kinesiology, and was immediately impressed that the emotion behind the issue was able to be resolved alongside correcting the physical symptoms. She started studying and practising different modalities of Kinesiology. In the 1990’s Tricia had a Kinesiology practice in Bellingen, while continuing to work in pharmacy, from which she has now retired.

Recently Tricia has joined Alchemy, and is enjoying being part of such an enthusiastic and well qualified group of health practitioners.

Your body doesn’t lie. The cells of the body remember all aspects of its history, and the origins of current disease states: cellular memory. By applying muscle testing, the crucial skill of Kinesiology, the practitioner can access this information, use appropriate corrective techniques, and restore balance on all levels. It can put the spring back into your step!

Using Neural Organisation Technique (NOT), neurological confusion, such as learning and behavioural difficulties, can be simply and quite rapidly resolved. Also, every muscle and organ is regulated through the neurological system, so bringing balance here is crucial to a healthy, well functioning body.

Tricia has had really good results working with:

  • Headache, pain and restricted movement,
  • learning and behavioural difficulties,
  • incontinence,
  • whiplash and other results of injury,
  • period pain and hormonal imbalances,
  • fears and phobias,
  • candida, forgetfulness and lack of concentration,
  • high blood pressure and organs out of balance.
